Sewa International volunteers in San Diego sort and package fresh fruit at a food bank on Sewa Day
Sewa International is pleased to announce October 5, 2014 as “Sewa Day”, its annual international day of volunteering. The aim of Sewa Day is to provide people a chance to give back to the local community through volunteering on a single day to make a difference.
On Sewa Day, volunteering events will be held across the USA and around the world based on at least one of the following guiding principles:
- To relieve hardship and poverty
- To bring a little joy where none exists
- To help the environment
Sewa Day is an international day of volunteering where thousands of good-hearted people across the world come together to perform selfless service and experience the joy of giving in its truest sense. By participating in this collective endeavor, we hope the seeds of “Sewa” (Sanskrit for Selfless Service) are watered so that acts of kindness and public service are performed more often.
This is a great opportunity for individuals, families, groups and organizations to come together, have fun and give back to our local communities. The event is also open to professional bodies, companies, schools, temples, and linguistic, spiritual, social and cultural organizations. We look forward to active participation from the Indian, Indian-American, Hindu and other faith-based and secular communities.
Sewa International invites everyone to be part of this worldwide celebration of community service! Join one of our local Sewa International chapter-organized volunteer events, or organize your own volunteer activity, or contact a local non-profit organization (such as homeless shelters, soup kitchens, schools, environmental organizations, etc) to organize a group activity.
Sewa Day is a project of Sewa International USA, a registered non-profit 501(c)(3) Hindu faith-based charity organization. For more information, visit: http://www.sewausa.org/
