100,000 Monks Gather for Mass Buddhist Ordination

Thailand — (CHAKRA) The ordination of 100 000 monks was organized on Friday February 6, 2010, as part of the Morality Revival Project by the abbot of the Dhammakaya temple in Thailand. One hundred men are to be authentic monks for 49 days with an objective to strengthen ethics and improve morality. Dhammakaya temple and 330 other temples from all over Thailand hosted this mass ordination. 

The Dhammakaya temple is the worlds largest Buddhist temple covering 1000 acres.  The temple has been promoting meditation as a means to contribute to world peace. The foundation is a member of the United Nations and as promoted world peace by participating in many international events as well as intra and inter-religion unity.

The temple is a non-profit organization, funded by donations from the public.  It provides meditation lessons to public from all around the world.  In addition, as a result of its size and number of facilities, the temple is often used as a venue for meetings and gatherings of monks, novices, lay Buddhists, and peace lovers of all religions.
