The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi was finally able to have his 96 year-old mother visit him at the PM’s official Race Course Road government residence. This was a special moment as PM Modi has been in office for almost 2 years.

After Modi’s mother Heeraben returned to the Indian state of Gujarat, Modi shared some images on his Twitter and Facebook account in which he is seen showing her around his 7 Race Course Road residence. “My mother returns to Gujarat. Spent quality time with her after a long time & that too on her 1st visit to RCR,” the PM commented on social media along with the photographs.”

In the images, the elderly Heeraben Modi is seen in a wheel chair, while the Prime Minister, wearing casual grey T-shirt and black trousers, can be seen guiding her through colourful flowers around his residence.

In one of the pictures, Modi, in a kurta pyjama is seen offering a glass of tea to his mother while sitting on a sofa. The image is symbolic as Narendra Modi started his career as a rural tea-seller on the streets of Gujarat. After Narendra Modi official became Prime Minister of India, he visited his mother to get her blessings and good-will.

The PM’s mother still lives in her tiny and modest ancestral house in Vadnagar, a small and nondescript town in North Gujarat’s Mehsana district. Modi’s mother has stated that her she wanted to keep her modest village lifestyle even after her son become the most powerful person in India and lives in a house that is of a typical lower-income home in rural India without much technology except an aging TV to watch her son’s speeches.

Here are some of the images posted by the Prime Minister on social media.
