(CHAKRA Blogs) Diwali is one of the biggest festivals in India, mainly celebrated by Hindus, but also celebrated by Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists. Diwali is a multiple day festival, but celebrated for different reasons depending what state you are from since each state in India has its own unique culture. However, although the reasons and traditions vary on Diwali, the overall themes of ‘Good vs. Evil’ and ‘Light over Dark’ are common no matter what religion or state you hail from. India has over 25 languages and dozens of cultural groups, but here are 10 ways you can greet your friends on the auspicious festival of Diwali (also known as Deepavali).
In Hindi (India’s national language) you can say: Diwali ki Shubhkamnayein / Shubh Deepavali
In Punjabi (Punjab) you can say: Tuhanu Diwali diyan boht boht vadhaiyan
In Marathi (Maharashtra) you can say: Shubh Diwali / Diwalichya hardik Shubhechha
In Tamil (Tamil Nadu) you can say: Deepavali Nalvazhthukal
In Telugu (Andhra Pradesh) you can say: Deepavali Shubhakankshalu
In Malayalam (Kerala) you can say: Deepavali Aashamsagal
In Kannada (Karnataka) you can say: Deepavali Habbada Shubhashayagalu
In Bengali (West Bengal, Bangladesh) you can say: Subho Deepabalir Preeti O Subechsha
In Oriya (Odisha) you can say: Deepavalira Anek Shubhechha
