Buddhist School to be Opened by Goldie Hawn
UK (CHAKRA) – Oscar winning actress Goldie Hawn is planning to open a Buddhist school in the UK. She is in the midst of working with Britain’s Conservative Party to make plans for such a school.
The actress, known for her role in Death Becomes Her, runs the educational charity, ‘The Hawn Foundation’, in the US which teaches children about mindfulness training—a Buddhist technique.
Making social and emotional progress is at the core of its training. Hawn hopes her ideas can be used to set up similar establishments to the US in Britain.
“We need to rethink our whole approach to classroom education, integrating neuroscience with the latest social and emotional learning techniques,” Hawn said.
“A peaceful, happy child is the first step towards a peaceful world,” she added.
The Conservative Party has approached the 64-year-old star, asking her for her assistance to form education policies, once and if they are elected into power.
“We are meeting to discuss how she might be able to help education here,” says Conservative education secretary Michael Gove.
Gove added, “We need more new schools outside local authority control to challenge the bureaucratic monopoly. Some parents would want a rigorous traditional academic education for their children with desks neatly marshalled and traditional football. Others will want something that is more flexible, more imaginative.”
