Recently another Bollywood has come under controversy, but this time it’s not over rumours around an its actors or about the taxes it paid. This time, the controversy is being led by a group of intellectuals who want to correct the clear biases and historic contradictions contained in the new movie Mohenjo-daro.

Acclaimed Bollywood personality Ashutosh Gowariker directed the much awaited Movie called Mohenjo-daro. The big budget Bollywood move stars A-list actor Hritik Roshan and is the first Bollywood movie to be based on the great ancient Indian civilization known as ‘the Indus civilization’. The movie had consulted some American-based historians familiar with the Indian sub-continent’s history, but after the movie’s release, a wave of criticism has come from many other academics.

A leading voice in the criticizing of Mohenjo-daro’s correct representation of history is popular author and intellectual Rajiv Malhotra. Rajiv Malhotra and historians/professors from various top universities have focused their critique of Mohenjo-daro on a handful of simple & clear biases and contradictions within the movie.

Some of the core points that Rajiv Malhotra questioned and examined in MOHENJO DARO were:

  • What is true and false about its depictions of history.
  • What are the social-political implications.
  • How to watch it for entertainment as well as education.

You can watch the entire video where Rajiv Malhotra criticizes Mohenjo-Daro’s point by point here:
