I too attend yoga classes however nothing about it is spiritual, it is just another exercise class to me. In the west Yoga is popularised and most famous for its health benefits, both for the body as a form of exercise and the mind as a form of stress relief, relaxation and well being. However these benefits are just positive side effects for the real purpose of yoga. Yoga benefits the body, mind and most importantly the Soul. The essence of yoga – “union with the divine” is what is lacking in western yoga and is a real injustice to the authenticity of an ancient practice however everyone is one their own path.

May I share with you my own blog post where I discuss the Vaishnav point of view of yoga as it is spoken in the Bhagavad Gita.
