A Sikh NGO, United Sikhs, recently opened a new water plant in Haiti to support up to 5000 survivors in the aftermath of the 2010 Haiti earthquake. To provide clean drinking water, the plant uses a reverse osmosis process.
Since the unfortunate even of the earthquake, cholera and other water related illnesses have caused an epidemic, which need to be addressed. The new plant will aim to reduce sicknesses and death caused by the polluted water.
NGO director, Gurvinder Singh informed that in addition to the plant, United Sikhs has already provided make shift camps and 20 tons of rice to over 25 orphanages providing an estimated 250,000 meals.
