What all are written here are amazingly true. I was iliving in Delhi those days, and had occasion to confront Krishna Menon, regarding Army procurement. I was selling for Caterpillar, the world reputed equipment manufacturer and Krishna Menon and his stooge Rear Admiral R.D.Dankar and Brig. Kaul were his dummies. They misled both Menon and Nehru and persuaded them to take a rigid anti-American stance, that favoured Russia and its satellites. Nehru also signed the Panch-sheel agreement, with Chou-en-lai, who breached it even before the ink on it dried up. Menon refused to buy Caerpillar for the army needs, alhough they were cheaper and better. His excuse was that Caterpillar was anti-Indian, and quoted the Caterpillar Chairman , William Blackie, as saying at a party that "Niggars cannot make tractors", alluding to the then proposal of Komatsu from Japan to manufacture tractors in India along with William Jacks. I also had occasion to meet K.C.Reddy, who was the Minister in charge of Defence Purchases, and T.Sivasankar, I.C.S., his Secretary. The indomitable V.N.Rajan - an embodiment of honesty and fair-play was the DGS &D. I met all of them, to no purpose, because only Menon's writ was running, and Nehu was a puppet in his hands. Menon was an embodiment of patented arrogance, and totally unmannered. I was also a mute witness to the Chinese attack on India and the loss of thousands of miles of land on the Askai Chin area. Nehru told Parliament that "Not even a blade of grass grows there", and asked to write-off the loss.

At 83 years, I share the writer's fear that history might repeat itself, very sonn. China and Pakistan consider India as too timid and incapable of even defending themselves against its weak neighbours, let alone wage a war with any major power in the world.

I also agree that the blame for our present sad state rests wholly on the Congress Party which has put the Nehru family above the Country. and subordinated the Country's interests to the family interests of Sonia Gandhi. I am sure that Congressmen are going to regret their passiveness.

What is needed is an uprising by our young people, who should be dictating the National Agenda to the political parties. This is best done by awakening national awareness towards participation in elections, and throwing out the suspicious anti-national candidates. We need a new kind of politics and leadership. Anna has lighted the lamp. Each one of us can light our fire from his lamp, and do our bit in our own neghbourhood. We cannot afford to look the other way when our motherland is being bled and destroyed, by some of our own chosen leaders!
