(CHAKRA Blogs) This week there was a video of a young child singing in a church performance with the lyrics “Ain’t no Homos gonna make it to Heaven” that have caused quite a stir in many human rights, gay/lesbian rights and other circles. I personally find this video appalling, but not surprising. Stories and videos like this are a dime a dozen in smaller churches across the world, with many such occurrences even being present in churches within India.
I am very happy to see many lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) bloggers exposing a video that can be the cause of bigotry against the gay community, but think this should also wake up other minority religious communities that are bigoted against. An example is that you can find many videos where christian sermons are suggesting Hindus or Buddhists will not go to heaven due to idol worship and will likewise ‘burn in hell’.
Members from various Dharmic religions need to raise their voices to stop such bigotry or else the cycle of hate, violence and misunderstanding will continue with these young churchgoers that are raised to think such negative thoughts. In a world where pluralism of all religions would be ideal, instances of bigotry like in the video shown below are our biggest obstacle.
