The meaning of the word ‘Secularism’ is not the same everywhere, and its implementation differs from one country to another. However, in India the meaning is quite simple, there is nothing to worry about it. Hey, don’t worry about the definitions or meaning given in the dictionary.
Firstly, secularism and appeasement go hand in hand, in other words secularism means appeasemement of a certain community. Appeasement of a community even at the cost of national integrity and security is completely acceptable in a country like India.
Expressing sympathy towards separatists, people accused of causing terror in the name of human rights is an integral part of secularism in India. And don’t you dare to speak about the Kashmiri Hindus persecuted in the valley in 1990, as you might lose the reputation of being a secular. Be very, very careful.
Secularism means advocating ‘waterless holi’, ‘cracker less diwali’, ‘Say no to Raksha Bandhan’ and trending this on various platforms of social media. But never, ever advocate ‘blood less eid’. I’m warning you! you know what happened when a girl advocated the same, again I repeat; be very, very careful.
Launching new programmes benefiting a particular community only is a part of secularism. Bashing RSS, and similar other ‘communal’ organizations is also a core part of this concept.
The word secularism has been affected with a disease popularly known as selective amnesia. So if we carefully observe the behavioural traits of such individuals, they exhibit symptoms like partial memory loss. They often tend to highlight certain incidents of atrocities, but forget the other form of atrocities.
Nationalism and our motherland is above religion, isn’t it? ‘Vande Mataram’ is our national song, which instills a sense of patriotism within ourself. Insulting national song, is insulting our motherland. But if a certain community leader says it hurts his religious sentiments, it is completely okay, because, sometimes, it is completely all right to place ‘religion’ above nationalism.
Using ‘India’ over ‘Bharat’ is always the best way to practice secularism.
If I have to further simplify this, Secularism in India isn’t really ‘Secular’ in nature, because certain communities can place their faith above the nation, national integrity and national security.
Isn’t this simple and lucid folks?
