Lord Dhanvantari is an Avatar of Vishnu from Hinduism. Dhanvantari is a Hindu god of healing. He is the father of Ayurveda, the physician god who carries in his hands a bowl of amrit (the nectar of immortality), a discus or chakra (to fight away evil), a conch shell (used in traditional medicines), and herbs or a leech (ancient method still in use today for bloodletting).

GREAT INDIAN SCIENCES PRACTICED BY NOBLE SELFLESS RISHIs (SEERS, TAPASWIs ) ARE RECOGNIZED OUTSIDE. INDIANS ARE TAUGHT TO THINK LOW OF THEMSELVES…WITH THE OBJECT OF PROJECTING A SECULAR IMAGE….JUT TO GET VOTES. INDIA IS DISCOVERED OUTSIDE INDIA.
INDIAN SAGES DID NOT CLAIM ANY COPYRIGHT!!! THEY WERE SELFLESS !! THEY WERE VERY INTELLIGENT…BUT NEVER CLAIMED ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS. WHATEVER THEY COULD LEARN, CLOSING THEIR EYES TO THE EXTERNAL WORLD, AND LOOKING INSIDE AT THE GOD REVEALED INSIDE THEIR HEART, THEY GAVE OUT ..FOR THE HAPPINESS OF HUMANITY !!

Agree with Mr. Iyengar. The indian sages were very selfless and gave their knowledge for the happiness of humanity. Ayurveda for holistic healing and well being is spreading very fast now that people have rediscovered the ancient wisdom of the sages. Along with it is the traditional practice of vegetarianism by hindus. Would like to recommend the following article on veganism and ayurveda:
